Subject: please help me with my problem (weathered facia boards)
Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002

I have a problem with the facia 2x6 boards on the gable of my roof. The wood is severely weathered and no amount of sanding will completely remove the cracks, splintering, voids and checks. I have removed all the old paint and caulk and will paint with a primer and finish coat.
I would like to know if your product will help.

thanks

Bill,

Our CPES (Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer) applied to the surface will impregnate the wood with epoxy resin and stabilize the surface. It also prevents rot or deterioration, and forms a good prime coating for any type of paint, and makes the surface weather-resistant. This treatment will take care of the wood itself. Coverage for CPES on this type of surface is will be about 200 sq. ft. per gallon.

Beyond the wood itself, what you do will depend on how long you want the surface to endure. Ideally the cracks should be filled with an epoxy filler, Such as our Fill-It Epoxy Filler. This will bond with the CPES-treated wood and remain in place for a LONG time. It will not shrink or crack or pop out. It can also be painted over directly. You can use standard wood fillers for the cracks, and they will stick to the CPES-treated surface, but most of them have a history of cracking, shrinking and dropping out. This is particularly true if you live in an area of the country that has large temperature extremes. The amount of Fill-It Epoxy Filler you use is strictly a volume issue -- enough to fill the vacant areas.

Hope this has been helpful, and please come back if you have additional questions.
