Good morning,
Attached are some photos of a wood carving I have which has some rot issues. Not sure which of your products would be appropriate. Have removed most of the rotted wood. The exterior of the carving is coated with poly. Bottom has no sealer at all. I try to set it up on blocks when outside but weather has taken a toll over the last 10 years or so.
Appreciate any suggestions on which direction to go.
Thank you.
JohnJohn,
I would use our S-1 Sealer to stabilize the rotted area, and to prevent any moisture intrusion in the future. On the poly coated exterior, there doesn’t appear to be much need to do this. The base and the rotted area would be the places I would concentrate on.
The S-1 Sealer is not UV resistant. On the base that shouldn’t matter. On the rotted area, you would want to cover the S-1 with something that is UV protecting, if the carving is outside. I am not sure what you had in mind for the rotted area. But if you wanted to fill it in, then some Sculpwood Paste, mixed with sawdust, and some resin dye for a color match would be my recommendation. While not an exact match, if you were to get the color close, it should be an acceptable cosmetic repair. I would put some of the same poly finish over the top. This should make a durable structural repair.
