Subject: Compatibility of CPES with Cetol

Dear Rot Doctor,

I wasn’t able to find anything on your Q&A page regarding the use of Cetol over teak primed with CPES. I know you say varnish is OK but I was thinking of using Cetol. By the way, this is the first time I’ve used CPES and it’s a great product. My fiberglass sailboat (built in Taiwan) is covered with weathered teak and I’m busy trying to restore it. Several of my friends here have seen what I’ve done so far and ordered it as well.

There are several Cetol products. You are most likely talking about Cetol Marine. If so, the answer would be no, our CPES is not compatible with Cetol Marine. If you want to use this product, you would need to start with bare wood, and follow the manufacturer instructions.
