Subject: Moisture content of boat stringer
Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999

I have some stringer rot…plan on drilling vertical holes thru the stringers spaced about 5″ apart and then using your products. Question: What moisture content (%) is the maximum for the stringer prior to application of material?…I’ll be using a moisture meter to measure.

Thanks
David

David,

Normal wood is going to have a moisture somewhere around 10 – 20% (check a piece of “dry” wood for a baseline). The closer you can get your stringers to that the better. I would say that anything above about 25% is too wet. The drier the better. CPES will do okay in damp wood, just as long as you’re not asking it to displace water.
